Heart or Duty

I look around this burning house
ash and fire
the grey smoke rising higher
Yet the walls are so cold

I am bound by oath to this place
paper and color
the places I signed my honor
Yet I cannot stay

I have found a new solace
pillow and bed
gentle bosom to rest my head
Yet it will not let me

I have a choice to make
heart or duty
to follow task or beauty
Yet beauty’s going away

Waoh thats beautiful..
mmmh you got to make a choice and let it be the right one...
Beauty comes and goes yet duty is there forever and cant escape it..

If heart is important, and heart leads, what happens if your heart is fickle?

Assuming I get the sublime message in your fine poem...if the 'beauty' knows the value of what you'd bring to her life the she'd stick around.

Duty is here to stay, Beauty is often fleeting but genuinely caring beauty sees it as her duty to stay.
Just my $0.02 & a burrito to go,lol!

Hi Sandman,
I really had just come to your blog to thank you for visiting mine, and I found this beautiful piece as my reward.

Duty and beauty? Are you sure they are opposed? Heart and oath, not that far apart, really. You are a whole person, you engage wholly in what you do--the bits of you that recognise duty are undoubtedly the same mix of bits of you that recognise beauty. The parts of you that can give your heart and mean it come from the same integrity that makes your oath meaningful to you. So I would turn the question on its head and ask "why 'or'". Sometimes just thinking about a thing differently changes the thing itself.

Reminds me of " A sad kind of Funny"
I think i really "Old is gold"

You can paint the house again and the effects can be amazing. No duty, just the way it has to be.

Stay.

Beauty Sandman, Beauty...

At least until it goes away...

Better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all!!!

great piece sandman!
and duty should come first in most situations in my view...
but its a rough road if u pick it it all amounts to whether u can deal wth the 'what-if' factor when u remember beauty...

Auntie suggests beauty first - before it goes away. Then you will have a great memory (to cheer you) while you perform the duty.
